Most of the Sikh festivals are events to celebrate the birth and teachings of the 10 gurus and their teachings. The birthdays of all Gurus especially the first and last Sikh Guru is celebrated on a grand level. The other festivals that hold significant importance in Sikh festival calendar are Baisakhi, Hola Mohalla and Diwali. Most of the festivals have music, fireworks, dances and a big feast as a way of celebrating this special day. The Granth is read constantly. Hymns are sung in chorus by professional Sikh singers and Prayers are also said. Vaisakhi which is in April, began as a Hindu festival which is Kind of like thanksgiving for Catholics but this festival is only for Sikhs. Those who are ready to be initiated into the Khalsa are usually baptized on this day. Diwali, or Dipawali, is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row of clay lamps that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects them from spiritual darkness.
